A boat with an interesting history - Nelson 34 Aft Cabin Mk 6
At Boatshed we pride ourselves on really getting to know the boats we have for sale. This means from time to time we come across vessels with such an interesting history they are worth an extra mention.
This week the spotlight is on a Nelson 34 Aft Cabin Mk 6.
She was originally built for the MOD as the Senior Officer’s Barge for HMS Ark Royal in 1969. Designed by Keith Nelson and built by Nelson and Co in Bembridge, Isle of Wight. She had an illustrious in service career including carrying the Prince of Wales for the Spithead Jubilee Fleet review in 1977.
In 1995 she was sold out of service and then underwent a 5-year onshore refit as a private yacht. The new owners remained sympathetic to her styling and profiling, maintaining as many of the original features as they were able. Her engines were fully overhauled during this time and they were rebuilt again in 1992 and overhauled again in 1996. They have since had annual services.
During this refit she was made more cruising or liveaboard friendly. She had a holding tank fitted and hot water from both a calorifer and an immersion heater. She has 4 sleeping berths in 2 cabins and one heads. She also comes equipped with solar panels and comprehensive nav and safety equipment.
