About Tony Pope
My love of sailing started at 10 following an Easter Camp at Rockley Point in Poole harbour. From then on every holiday was spent on boats.
My first boat was an unknown design small dinghy with a Gaff rig call "Festina Lente" (make haste slowly) which was quite apt. At school I sailed Optimists. Toppers, and Fireflys.
During my teens we had Westerly Pentland Ketch on a swing mooring at Bucklers Hard. We sailed her all over the south coast and she also spent time in the Med. After University myself and a mate brought her back through the French Canals, from Narbonne to Bordeaux, a fabulous trip.
Over the years I have raced various dinghies including an RS600 which was nicknamed the "Yellow Sub" as it was yellow and almost always upside down!.
Now I have a Dragonfly 910e Trimaran which I have raced and fast cruised around the south coast for almost 10 years.
I am an active member of the Royal Victoria Yacht Club in Fishbourne Isle of Wight, where I was Commodore for three years to 2017. I am a DI (Dinghy Instructor) with racing endorsement.
Sailing runs in the family and my daughter is now racing her Optimist on the circuit so many weekends are spent at events around the country.
Becoming a member of the Boatshed team is a bit of a dream come true job and I am looking forward to help your buying or selling a boat.
